Bread is easily the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to cheese fondue dippers. It is a classic dipper that complements the taste of cheese.
While all kinds of bread work well, one of my favorites is a baguette. Cut it into small pieces to make the perfect dipper!
Experiment with toasting the baguette and not toasting it.
Toasted bread is quite tasty but can be a bit challenging to stab with the fondue forks. This is why I think offering both options is nice.
Keep in mind when choosing a fondue dipping bread that a denser bread will work best.
I am also a big fan of using sour dough bread to dip in cheesy fondue but then again I am big fan of sour dough for any purpose.
Also, while you shopping for your fondue dippers consider picking up some pumpernickel bread and why not try some biscuits too.
Lemony shrimp and cheese make a divine combination. All you need to do is boil the shrimps with lemons until they are pink.
Peeled and tail-on shrimps will take your cheese fondue collection to the next level!
If you don’t have time to cook on your own shrimp consider picking up a few of those shrimp rings from the frozen food department at the grocery store.
If you can’t find them, ask the folks working at the meat department.
Also, ask the folks at the meat department for their pre-cooked shrimp. Most of the time they have pre-cooked and pre-peeled shrimp behind the glass on ice.
By the way, if they have the cooked shrimp back there, they also most likely have some cooked crab legs.
You could get fancy and give people some crab legs to crack and then dip in the cheese fondue.
Now that, is a special treat right there.
3. Your Favorite Fruits
Go crazy with fruits!
Cheese fondue gives you the perfect opportunity to bring citrusy fruits to the table and enjoy them with cheese.
Some of the best choices of fruits that make the ideal fondue dippers include apples, pears, grapes, avocados, and tomatoes.
If you are a fan of frozen fruits, you can also throw them in the mix.
Don’t feel like you have to peel those apples. Slice them up and put them out on the table.
Leaving the skin on will actually make them a bit easier to handle.
Vegetables are uber-healthy and super yummy when served as cheese fondue dippers.
If you want to enjoy a crunchy texture with every bite, you can go with baked asparagus, cooked mushrooms, or green beans.
On the other hand, if you want to emphasize on cheese, opt for steamed vegetables. Try steaming carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, or artichokes hearts.
Also, consider raw cut up veggies too.
That is my personal favorite way to eat vegetables with cheese fondue. Everyone is different so perhaps poll the guest in advance or provide all options.
Nothing beats the taste of cheesy meatballs melting in your mouth, which is why it’s essentially impossible to go wrong with meatball dippers for your cheese fondue.
Bake a big bag of meatballs to enjoy the delicious meat-cheese combo.
If you are still wondering what to dip in cheese fondue, try some good old-fashioned pasta. Go for pasta in large shapes like shells and rigatoni.
The bigger the pasta, the better it is!
This is an even more fun option that I first expected. It is like eating deconstructed mac and cheese. Now, that is fun adulting right there.
7. Roasted Potatoes
Whether you fry it, bake it, or boil it, you just can’t go wrong with potatoes. Since potatoes are extremely versatile and oh-so-delicious, you can also use them as cheese fondue dippers.
The best option is to simply bake a tray of baby potatoes to serve with fondue.
8. Mint Leaves
Think out of the box and try dipping some mint leaves in our cheese fondue.
It is an exquisite combination that will leave your guests asking for more!
9. Potato Chips and Nachos
Potato chips are a classic dipper. They go with a variety of dips and sauces and also make an excellent choice for cheese fondue dippers.
Some other snack style cheese fondue dippers include nachos and wheat crackers.
10. Poached Chicken
While it may seem like an unlikely candidate for the dipper table, poached chicken is one of the best cheese fondue dippers.
Since it is generally bland, it brings the focus to cheese to give you a delicious cheesy experience with every bite!
11. Steak Chunks
Now, this is a bit decadent but oh my goodness is it delicious. Buy a few beautiful steaks and grill them so that they are medium rare.
You don’t want the steak any more done than that because it will cook a bit more while being dipped into the cheese.
Next, cut the steak into 1″ thick cubes and enjoy!
I prefer to grill the steaks for this because it adds a bit of a smokey flavor and that grill marks just add a bit more charm.
