How to freeze whole apples

  1. Wash and dry fresh, unbruised apples.
  2. Place dry apples on a cookie sheet without them touching each other.
  3. Clear a place in the freezer so the cookie sheet can stay upright without tipping the apples.
  4. Slide cookie sheet into freezer.
  5. Once the apples are completely frozen (about six hours for them to be frozen solid), remove them from the cookie tray and transfer into a freezer-safe bag.
  6. Store in the freezer for long term use.

How to freeze raw apples

Here’s how to freeze cut apples or apple slices:

1. Wash, dry, peel, and core the apples.

2. Cut the apples into slices or pieces. You can cut apples into eight slices or even thinner slices.

3. In a large glass bowl, prepare a lemon juice bath by adding 2 T of lemon juice in 2 cups of water.

4. Soak cut apples in the lemon juice bath to help keep the slices from browning and leave them undisturbed for 5 minutes.

5. Strain apple slices from the lemon juice mixture. Allow to drip dry for about 5 minutes.

6. Place apple slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

7. Place the baking sheet in the freezer until apple slices freeze completely. This should take about 5 hours.

8. Once frozen, transfer the cut apples to a freezer bag.

9. Remove as much air from the freezer baggie as possible.

10. Return the bags of frozen apple slices to the freezer immediately.

How to freeze apple pie filling

Instructions to freeze apple pie filling 

  1. Use your favorite recipe to prepare apple pie filling while the apples are fresh.
  2. Line a foil pie pan or pie plate with parchment paper or plastic wrap to help keep the filling from sticking.
  3. Place the pie plate in the freezer.
  4. Once frozen, remove from pie plate and transfer to a freezer bag.
  5. Return to the freezer. 
  6. When ready to use the pie filling, move the fully frozen filling to an unbaked pie shell and just add another 20-25 minutes of bake time.

  • 8 apples
  • 2 T Lemon juice
  • 2 c water


  1. Wash, dry, peel, and core the apples.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to 2 cups of water. 
  3. Cut the apples into slices. Choose whatever thickness you prefer.
  4. Allow the apple slices to soak in the lemon water for 5 minutes.
  5. Drain the slices from the water and leave them in the colander for five minutes to drip dy.
  6. Place drained apple slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Place the baking sheet with apple slices in the freezer for 5 hours.
  8. Remove the slices from the freezer and place them in freezer baggies. 
  9. Remove as much air from the baggies as possible.
  10. Return the bagged apple slices to the freezer immediately.
  11. Best if used within six months of freezing.
