Cake pops are small, round balls of cake that are glazed and served on a stick! They are an adorable, handheld twist on delicious cake, and there are loads of cake pop recipes here to choose from. These cake pop recipes make great finger food desserts at parties, showers, and Easter brunch.

But bakers have taken cake pops to another level, making them out of almost any kind of cake or dessert. My first “cake pop” came to be because I had overbaked a rum cake. It turns out that rum balls are made of baked cake “crumbs” mashed and rolled up, and then you add a lot more rum and then more rum glaze.

We ate way too many highly boozy rum balls that year. No stick necessary—they went from the fridge to our faces. A pop stick would have just slowed us down.

You can make cake pops without the sticks: Some home chefs are using tiny forks, paper straws, a couple of toothpicks, or none at all. You can use paper muffin or candy holders, too. I made the #10: Ice Cream Cone Cake Balls that sit in mini cake cones (#10). I love the look so much.

Originally, without the sticks these tiny round desserts are just “cake balls” but who are we to judge. Some cake pops are made of rolled-up cake crumbs and some are baked fresh in a cake pop maker like this one (bake, stab, glaze and go).  My favorite is our own recipe for Snowman Cake Pops at the very bottom.

I’m particularly proud of how good these came out, especially their tiny melty bases completely on accident!
