Air Fryer Tortilla Chips Recipe

Air Fryer Tortilla Chips Recipe

I have really been enjoying this air fryer tortilla chips recipe lately.

There is something so nice about having freshly made chips on hand.

Homemade chips will never quite compare to the store bought bag of tortilla chips for me but that is kind of the point.

If you are having a party and you have made your favorite dip, serving it with some homemade chips is just a nice touch.

This is one of those air fryer recipes where you will be so happy that you invested in an air fryer.

We love this simple Ninja Air Fryer. There are plenty of different sizes and types of air fryer, but this does the job just fine for two people.

The only ingredients that you need are tortillas, vegetable oil and salt.

We’ve used olive oil before but the flavorless quality of vegetable oil is probably better for this air fryer tortilla chips recipe.

May as well experiment a bit and use whatever oil that you have on hand.

Even avocado oil or just cooking spray works too.

Depending on the size of your air fryer you will most likely have to cook the homemade chips in batches.

It’s important to start them in a single layer so the air gets to each chip on all sides.

Ingredients:

  • Corn tortillas
  • Vegetable oil (any oil will work, so will cooking spray)
  • Salt

Instructions:

  • Step 1: Use kitchen shears to make quick work of cutting the tortillas into triangle shapes. You can also make simple strips too.

You can even use a pizza cutter for this step.

I don’t like for my chips to be too large so I tend to cut each tortilla into between six to eight pieces.
  • Step 2: Preheat your air fryer.
  • Step 3: Toss your triangles of cut tortillas in a large bowl with your oil and salt. Toss or gently mix with your fingers to coat thoroughly.

You only need a little bit of oil to create crispy tortilla chips.
  • Step 4: Place the tortilla pieces in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for a couple of minutes until they are starting to turn golden brown. Pause halfway to toss the basket so the chips turn.
  • Step 5: Remove them from the air fryer with tongs or tump the basket over onto a cooling rack.
  • Step 6: Continue working batches until you have cooked all of your tortilla chips.

The bottom line

This is how we make our own homemade tortilla chips these days.

I’ve used flour tortillas too, which tend to burn a bit faster, so reduce the cook time and check often.

We are loving making chips lately and I have been dipping them in my favorite salsa.

Try our recipe for Taco Dip that would go great with homemade air fryer tortilla chips.

You don’t have to go to the Mexican food side to enjoy air-fried chips, either. Let’s go with Crack Dip and go wild!

But of course this chilled Pineapple Avocado Salsa is everything you could ever want with warm chips!
