BEST 28 Savory Apple Recipes To Choose From!

BEST 28 Savory Apple Recipes To Choose From!

Let’s look at savory apple recipes for a bit of tasty food inspiration!

Apples, apples, apples. Apples are multifaceted and can easily be used for some sweet dishes but today we are going to explore some savory apple recipes where they are used predominantly.

Where I live, they come into season in late fall and early winter, though nowadays they are available pretty much year-round.

There are so many varieties of apples, one can never get bored.

Some are sweet, others tangy.

Some are crispy for eating, others better suited for cooking.

And speaking of cooking, which we do regularly around here, I collected twenty-eight savory apple recipes, a few of which you may have seen or tasted before.

Savory apple recipes can include pork or chicken or sausages, like our Roasted Sausages And Potatoes With Apples or Savory Apple Stuffed Pork Chops recipes.

Side dishes with apples can come in the form of salads or slaws.

Of course, apples are inherently sweet and along with their crunch level, they always add an interesting textural level to any apple side dish where they are included.

Breakfast also has savory recipes with apples too, like muffins or omelets (#15)!

Hopefully, I can introduce you to some new ones to inspire you in your quest to use apples responsibly and regularly!

Healthy and Savory Fall Apple Recipes for Parties

Best Savory Apple Recipes

1. Savory Baked Apples With Sausage Stuffing

I’m kicking off this list of savory apple recipes with this delightful sausage stuffing recipe that is served inside hollowed-out apples.

Included is a recipe for sausage stuffing with genius shortcuts.

Then apple cores are scooped out and the stuffing is spooned in for baking!

Charming and delicious!

2. Savory Fall Galette With Sweet Potatoes, Fuji Apples & Goat Cheese

A galette is near the top of my list of savory apple dishes as well.

I mean, combining sweet potatoes, apples, and goat cheese?

Brilliant!

These freeform tarts are fabulous with savory fillings!

You can make or buy the crust.

The key is to slice the sweet potatoes and apples thinly and evenly!

3. Savory Apple Stuffed Pork Chops

Seasonings are the star of the show here with these savory apple recipes, like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and sea salt added to the diced apples.

This mixture is then spooned into one side of the sliced pork chop, tied together, seared then baked.

Tender, juicy, and oh-so full of flavor!

4. Apple Cheddar Muffins With Rosemary

Savory apple side dishes can take all shapes and forms and this one is a muffin!

The usual ingredients to begin with, but then sharp cheddar cheese, fresh rosemary, and finely chopped apples are mixed right on in for savory goodness!

A bit of butter could be added when serving or even a drizzle of honey!

5. Savory Apple Sausage Balls

These savory recipes with apples are brightened up so much by the apples!

This sausage ball recipe is a perfect example.

Combining baking mix, breakfast sausage, and cheddar cheese is all well and good.

But it all comes alive when the shredded apple is included.

Bake and enjoy, it’s that easy!

6. Warm Apple Bacon Slaw

For a quick apple side dish, you cannot go wrong with this apple bacon slaw.

Sweet apple with savory bacon and slightly crunchy cabbage.

Cook bacon in a skillet, and reserve some drippings to make a mixture of sugar, vinegar, and salt then heat onions, cabbage, and apples.

Crumble the bacon on top and serve warm.

7. Sweet Potato & Apple Quinoa Salad

Side dishes with apples can indeed be filling and savory.

This quinoa salad with sweet potatoes and apples is yummy with just a slight crunch from the pecans.

Lots of little additions that make it great!

Roast the diced sweet potatoes first, then cook the quinoa with apple cider adding dried cranberries at the end.

Make the sauce and mix it all together!

8. Butternut Squash Apple Soup

When you are in the mood for soup and you are wondering what to make with lots of apples, I suggest making this easy butternut squash soup.

Starts with sauteing leeks, adding seasonings, squash, apples, cider, and broth, and bringing to a boil.

Cook for a while and blend with an immersion blender with some maple syrup.

This is so creamy and satisfying.

9. Savory Apple Thyme Tart With Caramelized Onion & Gruyere

A tart is an excellent example of a savory apple dish.

Another tantalizing apple and cheese combination is headed your way!

Plus caramelized onions, a hint of Dijon mustard, and fresh thyme!

Granny Smith is the apple of choice here for the tangy flavor!

Gorgeous presentation and delish!

10. Apple Stuffing

This recipe turns things a bit upside down for side dishes with apples by removing the sausage from a typical stuffing recipe and replacing it with apples.

Here you will find the buttery, hearty bread chunks, crisp apples, and fresh herbs combined to make the stuffing with the apples as the focus of the side.

11. Mini Savory Apple Pies

Adorable mini-savory apple pies are exactly the addition salty apple recipes need.

Again, bacon is called in to complement the apples and aromatic herbs are included inside a buttery crust.

Allow time to make the crust, while the filling of bacon, apple, onion, thyme, cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper brings these tasty morsels to life.

12. Kale & Apple Potato Salad

Salads may not typically be savory apple side dishes, but this one most definitely is!

May as well get those greens in with the sweetness of apples!

It is made up of diced and pre-cooked new red potatoes, chopped kale, chopped apples, and thinly sliced red onion!

The dressing is mayo, mustard, and cider vinegar.

Comforting, crunchy, tangy, delightful!

13. Roasted Sausages & Potatoes With Apples

No peeling of potatoes and apples is required (unless you want to) in this recipe moving down my savory apple recipes list.

A bed of potatoes, apples, and onions is made in the bottom of a casserole dish.

Oil and seasonings are stirred in with sausages layered across the top!

14. Bacon, Date & Apple Brussels Sprout Skillet

Another fantastic apple side dish is this recipe of bacon, dates, apples, and brussels sprouts!

This is a wonderful mix of sweet and savory all together in one skillet.

Start with the bacon, then remove, and cook the veggies next with red wine vinegar, garlic, and black pepper.

Last, stir in apples and dates for a few minutes before adding back in the bacon.

So much deliciousness in one dish!

15. Apple Omelette With White Cheddar

For those of you out there who love a creative breakfast, weekend brunch, or are in need of a new post-workout meal, this omelet is a quick, sweet, and savory treat!

Saute the apples with a bit of rosemary and set them aside.

Start the eggs and when they are setting, add in the cooked apples and shredded cheddar cheese.

16. Savory Apple Hash

Tired of all the old side dishes that usually go with your chicken or pork?

Do you want something new and different, but at the same time familiar enough to ease you out of your comfort zone?

Look no further as the Savory Apple Hash with its mix of diced, crispy bacon, onions, garlic, and of course, diced crispy honey apples will accompany your favorite meat as truly as an old friend will.

17. “Plastered” Pork Tacos With Apple-Jalapeno Salsa

Give a new twist to your favorite taco combo with some savory apples and jalapenos!

That’ll give you a new way to enjoy your plastered pork.

But wait, how can you eat something that’s plastered you ask?

Don’t worry.

The “plaster” coating is made from flour, and it traps the moisture and flavor in the pork while it bakes.

Scrumptious!

18. Pork Shoulder With Sauerkraut & Apples

The apples and onions work hand in hand to work their sorcery on this classic dish.

Traditionally served with mashed potatoes, the Sauerkraut mix covers the mash like gravy.

It’s delicious!

But don’t take our word for it, give it a try!

19. Turkey & Apple Sloppy Joes

Next up is a different version of the ever-popular Sloppy Joe!

Made more wholesome with the use of turkey instead of the usual ground beef, expect to be greeted by savory sweetness from the apples and an aromatic burst of flavor from the cloves!

Best served on toasted hamburger buns.

20. Spicy Pork Tenderloin With Sweet Potatoes, Apples & Onions

Most anybody and their next-door neighbor loves a good tenderloin.

Adding to its appeal is the fact that this is one of the easier dishes to cook as you only need one other pan to reduce the sauce on top of the stove.

Pep it up by throwing in a combo of apples, cumin, onions, and sweet potatoes, then adjust the spice level to your liking.

Add on a salad or a green veggie or two with some dinner bread and you’re done!

21. Mulligatawny Soup

Superhero trivia buffs will instantly know that Mulligatawny soup is Batman’s favorite dish.

With its origins dating back to British India, Mulligatawny literally means “pepper water” and is made with your choice of either chicken or turkey.

The soup is traditionally spiced to the hotter side of the Scoville scale, but you may adjust the spice level to your liking.

Try it yourself to see why the caped crusader retains this soup as his go-to comfort dish!

22. Korean Spicy Chicken Tenders With Sweet Apple

Hailing from the exotic far east, this spicy entree will leave you wanting more!

The chicken is braised in olive oil and Korean red pepper paste with big chunks of apple, celery, and bell pepper thrown in.

Served with either rice or your choice of pita bread, tortillas, or sandwich bread, this dish is sure to have your guests gushing hearty kamsahamnidas (thank yous) after dinner!

23. Sweet Lamb Curry

This delicious dish is an aromatic blend of lamb, raisins, apples, and other spices.

Interestingly, it can even be made the night before the date of your intended serving!

Just leave it to cool for a bit then refrigerate.

Reheating before serving the next day takes nothing out of its fragrant flavor!

Serve with rice, sambals, and pappadams.

Having trouble purchasing sambals?

Make your own!

Popular sambals include bananas drenched in lemon juice, peeled and seedless cucumbers in yogurt, mango chutney, or toasted coconut.

24. Savory Pork & Apple Stew

This savory stew is made from pork shoulder, apples, garlic, red wine, and broth with various spices.

The highlight of this dish is the combination of red wine and broth.

Most people don’t expect it to be so good!

With the apples bringing just the barest hint of sweetness, this combination is simply magic!

25. Quick-Brined Pork Chops With Apples

Pork Chops with a twist!

Instead of straight-up roasting, the pork is first marinated for a day in a brine made of a mix of water, kosher salt, pepper, sage leaves, apple cider, and apple vinegar.

Be careful not to over-marinate!

Doing so will make the pork very salty and will take further steps to correct.

Done correctly though, will result in a dish fit for the discerning gourmet!

26. Bacon & Apple Stuffed Pork Loin

We’ll begin by saying that no, this dish is way different from entry #20.

Instead of just taking the pork tenderloin and throwing everything into the oven, we’ll first be stuffing it with sliced apples, diced onions, thyme, and chopped bacon, then throwing it in the oven.

If you have surplus bacon after making the stuffing, you could wrap the rest around the loin.

It cooks in just 20 minutes!

Served with your favorite side dish, it makes the perfect weeknight dinner!

27. Roast Chicken With Apples & Sweet Potatoes

This smell wafting from the oven while the chicken bakes is divine!

Easily the simplest of all our entries so far, this dish is made up primarily of chicken, apples, sweet potatoes, and carrots.

Be sure to immerse the carrots, sweet potatoes, and apples into the sauce as much as you can  while baking together with the chicken so they wind up really tender.

You can then either pour the pan drippings over the meat as is or turn it into some tasty gravy!

28. Chicken Fricassee With Apples

Have you been wanting to wean the kids off of chicken nuggets and get them to enjoy some real home-cooked food?

Then this dish is for you!

The soft, boneless chicken dripping with the apple sauce mix makes this dish hard to resist!

The good news is, this dish is really easy to make, that’s because you can expect the kids to be asking for more!

The bottom line

No matter when you want savory apple recipes, there are some on this list for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

If you find yourself with apples that need to be used, now you have a good list of what to make with lots of apples or even just a few!
