Winter Wonderland White Fruit Salad: A Wintry Mix You’ll Actually Love!

Winter Wonderland White Fruit Salad: A Wintry Mix You’ll Actually Love!

A refreshing twist on a fruit salad, this Winter Wonderland Fruit Salad features a delicate blend of pale, wintry fruits. It’s light, crisp, and perfect for adding a bit of seasonal charm to meals.

With the holidays approaching and winter around the corner, it may be a good time to gather your friends and family for a themed brunch! And this all-white fruit salad will fit in perfectly—already dressed to impress in a winter’s gown.

It occurred to me that I had a remarkable number of white or nearly white fruits in the house and I wondered how they’d taste together.

It turned out delicious AND gorgeous. So if you’re looking for a simple dessert or brunch side dish to go with a winter wonderland theme, this is for you.

Note that the “Winter” is because of the nearly all-white color, not to be confused with “winter fruits,” a seasonal reference to fruits that are in season in the wintertime.

The fruit in my Wintry Fruit Salad Recipe

  • Mango
  • Golden Kiwi
  • Dragon Fruit (white-flesh)
  • Thai Banana
  • Apple

You can use regular Cavendish bananas (the kind you usually find in the grocery store) but Thai banana, plantains, or Saba bananas have a citrusy finish that I find very appealing (no pun intended). Still a banana but a bit less sweet and the lemony finish cuts the richness. (Note that it can take a very long time for those to ripen, so if they aren’t very dark yellow with brown stripes, they are probably not ripe enough to eat raw, and it’s easier to just get “regular” bananas.

I chose pre-sliced mango because it’s a time-saver but you can peel a whole one if you want to. You can use the small “champagne” mangoes or the big round ones, just make sure they are pretty ripe.

Apple adds a nice crisp bite to this bowl of mostly soft fruits. Granny Smith especially; in this I used Fiji and Granny Smith, but whatever you have around is ideal.

Golden Kiwi look the same as the green ones on the outside but are far less fuzzy and the inside flesh is very pale yellow, hence the name. I find the taste similar as the green ones, but a bit milder, perhaps.

I used them in equal amounts, with a touch more white dragon fruit because the fruits are large and heavy and I didn’t want it to go to waste (I love dragon fruit).

Other fruits you can use

Here are other pale to mostly-white fruits that might work well in this wintry fruit salad:

  • White apricot
  • White nectarine
  • Casaba melon
  • Winter melon (conveniently named!)
  • White strawberries that are actually called Pineberries

You can use all or just a couple of these fruits, but of course, the flavors here combine into a mouthwatering dish that needs almost no accompaniment.

White Fruit Salad: A Wintry Mix You’ll Actually Love!

Yield: 4 cups

Ingredients

  • 2 Small apples (about 1 cup diced)
  • 1 or 2 Golden Kiwi (about ½ cup diced)
  • ½ White Dragon Fruit (about 1 cup diced)
  • ½ large Mango or 1 small Mango (about ¾ cup diced)
  • 1 Banana (about 1 cup diced, depending on size)
  • 2 T lemon or lime juice

Instructions

  1. Peel all of the fruits and discard the peels into a composting container if possible.
  2. Dice all of the fruits into ½ to ¾-inch pieces and add the cut fruit to a large bowl.
  3. It’s okay if you have a bit more or less than the above measurements or to leave out anything you don’t particularly like.
  4. Add the lime or lemon juice and gently stir to combine.
  5. It’s ready to eat immediately, or it will keep, covered and continuously chilled, for up to three days.
