Wine That Tastes Like Pizza? Pizza Hut’s Latest Release Is Turning Heads… Or Turning Stomachs?

The pizza-flavored wine received mixed reactions online.

Drinking wine used to be a refined affair—savored with a meal and paired with familiar notes like blackberry or oak. But these days, wine is about pushing boundaries, and Pizza Hut is taking it to the next level with its newest creation: pizza-flavored wine. Yes, really.

Just this November, Pizza Hut announced its limited-edition tomato wine, designed to “capture the essence of your favorite slice in every sip.” The wine itself costs $25 per bottle (minimum two bottles) and is available exclusively online.

Made in collaboration with Kansas-based Irvine’s Just Beyond Paradise Winery, the pizza wine features flavors of sun-ripened tomatoes, natural basil, and a hint of toasted oak. Though made from tomatoes, it reportedly tastes like a chilled “white wine.”

“As a brand who has pioneered many firsts in the industry, we took a beloved, classic pairing of pizza and red wine and flipped it on its head as we aim to spark intrigue,” Pizza Hut representative Elyse Slayton said.

The announcement coincides with the return of the Triple Treat Box, which includes two medium one-topping pizzas, breadsticks, and dessert for $19.99 at participating locations. The restaurant chain also offers a $60 gift set, complete with a bottle of Tomato Wine, branded wine glasses, and a wine opener.

Reactions to the announcement have been mixed. On Reddit’s r/wine thread titled “Pizza Hut just dropped Tomato Wine… You trying it?”, opinions ranged from intrigue to skepticism. Some users expressed curiosity, while others rejected the idea altogether.

One commenter stated, “I wouldn’t try this at the mentioned price, but it’s great to see something creative in the wine space,” while another remarked, “Absolutely not.” A traditional wine enthusiast declared, “No grapes, no wine. My rules.”

Yet, some embraced the novelty, with one user saying, “I absolutely am, and I’m saving a bottle for years from now,” while another chimed in, “Hell yeah! YOLO!”
