I’d choose chocolates over anything else, too.
Whether you’re unwrapping a box of chocolates, enjoying a treat after dinner, or baking for the holidays, one thing is clear: chocolate plays a key role this season. A new survey from Ferrero North America explores how Americans are including sweets in their holiday plans.
The confectionery company surveyed 2,002 U.S. adults about their holiday habits and how treats factor into their celebrations. 56% of respondents said they prefer to gift and receive chocolates over wine during the holidays.
The survey also found that 75% of adults enjoy unwrapping presents and 74% enjoy receiving homemade cookies or sweet treats the most during the holidays.
“The holiday season is synonymous with celebration and sharing, and our data reveals that sweet treats are a must-have item when it comes to the festivities for most Americans,” said Jim Klein, spokesperson of Ferrero USA.

In addition, many adults plan to bake for the holidays, with 60% saying they will make sweet treats. 64% of adults admit to enjoying more sweets during the season, and 57% bake extra treats to have leftovers after the celebrations.
When it comes to holiday meals, 55% of adults said they would choose dessert over appetizers if they could only have one.
The study, conducted on behalf of the company by Golin in partnership with Dynata, surveyed consumers online from November 12-20, 2024, with a margin of error of +/- 4%.
