How to Make These Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls
It couldn’t be easier but the flavor and texture are top-tier, somewhere between everyone’s favorite center of a cinnamon roll with the flavor of apple pie.
Step 1: Preheat and prep
Preheat the oven to 350°F and apply nonstick spray or butter on an 8×8 inch casserole dish.

Step 2: Cut the cinnamon rolls
Open the can of icing that comes with the rolls and set it aside. Cut each cinnamon roll into quarters on a cutting board or use kitchen shears.

Step 3: Toss with the pie filling
To a large bowl, add the cut rolls and can of pie filling. Very gently toss the cut rolls and the apple pie filling together until every piece is coated, then spread the mixture into the prepared dish in an even layer.

Step 4: Bake for 30
After baking for 30 minutes, look for puffy, golden rolls and jammy filling. It needs to be cooked through in the center, so if the middle pieces still look doughy, give it 5 more minutes. Cool in the pan about five minutes.
Step 5: Drizzle with icing
The icing is usually spreadable but not ready to drizzle. If it’s just not running off the spoon well, microwave it (metal top OFF the can) for 8-10 seconds and it should be loose enough to pour on. You can also transfer it to a small microwave-safe bowl and heat it, or set it in a low dish of hot water to soften then use a pastry bag for a refined finish, or leave the can on top or next to the warm oven while the rolls bake. It doesn’t even have to be pretty, since it will get melty and become one lovely dish of deliciousness when it’s time to eat.

Tools & Equipment
- 8×8 inch casserole dish
- Nonstick cooking spray
- Cutting board and knife
- Large mixing bowl
- Silicone spatula
- Teaspoon for drizzling icing
Tips for Success
- Reduce the bake time by about five minutes if using smaller cinnamon rolls.
- Remove the can of icing right away and set it on the counter to warm up. The goal is to drizzle it over the hot apple pie casserole.
- Toss gently. Raw cinnamon roll dough tears easily, and torn pieces disappear into the filling.
- Check the center for doneness, since it will take longer to bake than the edges. Add five minutes if still doughy. If using a smaller pan, it will take longer to finish baking; a shallow pan will take less time.
- Cool the apple cinnamon roll casserole for five minutes or so so that the icing doesn’t completely disappear.
- Add a scoop of ice cream if this is about to be fall dessert.
