The chain is saying goodbye to vegetable oil frying.
Steak n Shake is already known for serving up some of the best fries around. But now, the burger chain is making a change by frying its signature fries in a way that focuses on flavor and authenticity.

The fast-food chain announced that it is switching to 100% all-natural beef tallow for frying its fries, bringing back a traditional method to create “the best fries possible.”
“Our fries will now be cooked in an authentic way, 100% beef tallow, in order to achieve the highest quality and best taste,” said Chris Ward, the spokesperson for Steak n Shake.
Beef tallow is a type of fat typically sourced from cows.
According to the chain, the switch from vegetable oil to 100% all-natural beef tallow will be completed by the end of February 2025.
