This nutrition scoring system is good news for Kroger shoppers.
Navigating the aisles of your local Kroger store just got a whole lot easier, thanks to a newly implemented nutrition scoring system, FoodHealth Score. In partnership with bitewell, Kroger aims “to give customers a fast, reliable way to evaluate the healthfulness of their food.”
The bitewell’s FoodHealth Score rates products from 1 to 100 based on two main factors: nutrient density and ingredient quality. A score of 0 indicates processed foods that are low in nutrients, while a score of 100 represents nutrient-dense, whole foods.
Kroger customers nationwide can conveniently check the FoodHealth Score while shopping online or through the Kroger app. In-store shoppers can easily access the score by scanning product UPC (Universal Product Code) codes.
Moreover, customers with digital accounts can review the FoodHealth Scores of their past purchases and analyze their buying trends through the “Nutrition Insights” feature available online.
Kroger claims the new technology empowers shoppers to align their food choices with their health goals. The supermarket chain also expressed excitement about the collaboration with bitewell, stating “Kroger and bitewell are united in our desire to improve the nutrition security of millions of people.”
Kroger started the OptUP program in 2017 to help customers assess the nutritional value of their food using a color-coded system. The bitewell’s FoodHealth Score is part of this program and includes an improved scoring system that considers more nutritional factors.
