It’s officially “boo” season! Whether you are making Halloween party food for a potluck or planning ahead for the Hallow’s Eve festivities, these yummy mummy hot dogs are cute and delicious.

Just wrap juicy hot dogs in strips of crescent dough to get puffy, brown and crisp little bandages. You can find the little eyes in most baking aisles or on Amazon for a couple of bucks. You don’t have to eat them (I never do; they’re hard candy). Serve alongside dipping bowls of ketchup and mustard.

Steps + Photos to make this recipe for Yummy Mummy Hot Dogs

Step 1: Set the oven to 350F to preheat. Get out your ingredients, but keep the crescent dough chilled until the very last second. Prep a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.

Ingredients for mummy hot dogs: crescent roll dough, hot dogs, candy eyes, ketchup, and mustard

Step 2: Unroll the crescent dough on a large cutting board, separate it into 4 rectangles, and press the middle seams together. If using an unbroken crescent sheet, cut into fourths.

Step 3: Use a pizza cutter to slice each rectangle into 8 thin strips. These will become the “bandages.”

Step 4: Pat the hot dogs very dry with a paper towel. (This helps the dough cling to the outside of the franks.) Wrap 3 to 4 strips of dough around each hot dog, criss-crossing as you go so it looks like mummy bandages. Leave a small gap near the top for the face. (See photo below.)

Step 5: Place the wrapped hot dogs on a baking sheet and bake for 13 to 16 minutes, until the dough is lightly golden brown.

Step 6: Dab a touch of ketchup on the back of each candy eye and press two onto every mummy dog in the “face” area. Let cool on a wire rack. How cute are these?

Tools and Equipment

  • Large cutting board
  • Pizza cutter or sharp chef’s knife for cutting the dough into “bandages”
  • Baking sheet
  • Foil or parchment paper for lining the pan
  • Wire cooling rack

Tips for Success

  • Pat the hot dogs very dry with a paper towel before wrapping the dough. Dry dogs help the dough cling.
  • Press the center seams firmly together in Step 2 or the strips will split apart while you wrap.
  • No need to be perfect. Loose, messy strips look more like mummies anyway.
  • Leave a gap between strips about an inch from one end so the “face” has somewhere to go. See photo in Step 4.
  • Don’t attach eyes until after they are baked and cooled.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge and re-crisp them in a warm oven or air fryer.
  • Want to make these ahead? Wrap the hot dogs ahead of time, keep them covered in the fridge, and bake right before guests arrive.

Ingredients

  • 1 8 oz tube of crescent roll dough
  • 8 hot dogs
  • Mini candy eyes optional
  • Ketchup & mustard for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Unroll the crescent dough on a large cutting board.
  • Separate the dough into 4 rectangles and press the middle seams together.
  • Use a pizza cutter to slice each rectangle into 8 strips.
  • Wrap 3 to 4 strips of dough around each hot dog to create your mummy, leaving a small gap for the face.
  • Place onto a baking sheet and bake for 13 to 16 minutes, until golden brown.
  • For decoration, add a little ketchup to the back of the candy eyes and attach two to each mummy dog.

Notes

Pat the hot dogs dry before wrapping so the dough sticks.
Attach the candy eyes after baking, not before. They will not survive the oven.
Leftovers keep in the fridge for a few days. Re-crisp in a warm oven rather than the microwave.
