McDonald’s Pokémon Happy Meals Are Rolling Out in France, and U.S. Fans Are Left Waiting

France, Pokémon chose you!

Gotta catch ’em all, or gotta miss ’em all? McDonald’s has partnered with Pokémon to include exclusive Pokémon cards in Happy Meals, but the promotion is currently available only in France, leaving U.S. fans eager and envious.

On November 9, McDonald’s France teased fans with an Instagram post featuring an image of a Big Mac Pokémon card, captioned, “les gars j’ai chopé une nouvelle carte,” which translates via Google to, “Guys, I got a new card.” Though McDonald’s hasn’t confirmed a global release, fans are buzzing about the exclusive card, questioning if it’s real.

PokeBeach, a dedicated Pokémon fansite, shared an early look at the upcoming release. According to the site, McDonald’s annual Pokémon TCG promotion will run from December 4 to January 21, but only in France for now. There is still no word on a release date for the U.S.

While official details are sparse, PokeBeach claimed that the set will feature 15 cards, with many of them being dragon types, including fan favorites like Charizard, Dragonite, and Dragapult, likely in honor of the Year of the Dragon.

Many U.S. fans are expressing both frustration and excitement. In a teased Instagram post by food influencer Marcus Smith, people flooded the comments, with one saying, “I need it!!” while others questioned the legitimacy of the Big Mac card: “Is the Big Mac card actually going to be real?” and “How will Big Mac affect the current meta?”

Others joked about their disappointment, with comments like, “Cries in American 😢” and positive remarks such as, “Jokes aside, the dragon cards are a fricking solid pick!”
Currently, McDonald’s in the United States offers the Holiday Pet Simulator Happy Meal, which, according to the company’s website, ends around Dec. 16 or while supplies last.
