Yes, you need to pierce a potato before microwaving it.
Doing this allows the steam that builds up during the cooking process to escape.
If the potato is not pierced before cooking in the microwave, it will likely explode.
Avoid this mess by simply poking the potato with a fork multiple times before baking it.
How Long To Microwave A Baked Potato
Start by baking the potatoes in the microwave on high for 5 minutes.
After the timer goes off, rotate the potato and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
Check the potato, and if you can easily pierce it with a fork, it is done.
If it isn’t easily pierced cook it for another 3 minutes and check again.
How long to microwave a baked potato varies based upon the size of the potato and the wattage of the microwave.
How To Reheat Baked Potatoes In The Microwave
- Remove the baked potato from any packaging.
- Cut the baked potato in half.
- Wrap the baked potato halves in damp paper towels.
- Heat the potato halves in the microwave for 3 minutes.
- Use tongs or an oven mitt to remove the potato halves from the microwave
