This 4th of July charcuterie board comes together in 25 minutes with no oven, no stove, and no cleanup beyond a lightweight cutting board or baking sheet. Both time- and budget-friendly, this doesn’t even require cooking experience.
Cubes of sharp cheddar pile in the center to anchor the white. (I like a variety of cheese, but you can use all white sharp, jack or any other white cheese.) Cherry tomatoes on the vine and rolls of salami fan into the red zone, and a tight cluster of blueberries (or olives, if the idea of fruit on a savory board is unappetizing to you), plus a stack of blue corn tortilla chips finishes the blue. Set it down between a small bowl of ranch and a ring of your favorite crackers, and you have a patriotic charcuterie board that holds up right through the fireworks.

Steps + Photos to make this 4th of July charcuterie board
Step 1: Build the cheese base.
Cut the cheddar into half-inch cubes. Cut the swiss (or American cheese) slices into stars if you want, with a small cookie cutter, or leave them as folded slices. Cluster the cheddar in the center-left of the board so it covers the most surface area, and lay the swiss stars or sticks alongside. The cheese is the white field of the red white and blue charcuterie board, so give it room.

Step 2: Add the salami.
Roll or fold the salami slices and arrange them in a curved row or fan along one side of the board. The reds should “read” as a stripe or a cluster, not scatter, so keep them tight together for the American flag charcuterie board appearance.
Step 3: Cluster the cherry tomatoes.
Place a small bunch of cherry tomatoes on the vine across the top of the board. Tuck individual tomatoes into the gaps between the salami and the cheese to keep the red zone full and continuous.

Step 4: Pile the blueberries and fan the blue chips.
Pile the blueberries in a tight, deliberate cluster in one corner to create the blue field. (Don’t like the idea of fruit on a savory board? Go with whole black olives cut in half instead.) Fan the blue corn tortilla chips along an open edge so they read as a wedge of blue rather than a pile of snacks. This arrangements helps turn a regular snack board into a 4th of July food spread.
Step 5: Anchor with the dip and crackers.
Set the bowl of dip near the center to anchor the board and break up the colors. Ring the dip with assorted water crackers and seeded crackers so guests have an easy grab. Tuck a few extra crackers into any open spots.
Step 6: Garnish and finish.
Add fresh sprigs of dill or parsley around the cheese and dip for a green pop. Slide in mini flag picks if you have them, and bring the board to the table on a red and white striped napkin. Serve right away or hold at cool room temperature for up to thirty minutes.
Tools and Equipment
- A large wooden charcuterie board or clean cutting board, platter or a baking sheet covered in parchment paper, twelve inches minimum
- A sharp knife and a cutting board for the cheese
- A small bowl for the dip
- A small star-shaped cookie cutter (optional, for the swiss/American)
- Mini American flag picks (optional but handy and on theme.)
Tips for Success
- Bring the dairy to cool room temp for ten minutes before serving. Cheese tastes flat straight from the fridge.
- Plate the crackers last. Crackers can soften within an hour on a humid summer day, so if possible, keep them in their packaging until the board is 15 minutes from serving.
- Build the dry side ahead. Up to two hours before guests arrive, arrange the cheese, salami, and blue chips. Add the cherry tomatoes, blueberries (or olives), and dip within thirty minutes of serving so nothing weeps onto the cheese.
- No blue corn chips at the store? Get them delivered from Amazon or Walmart. Terra even makes blue vegetable chips that are very striking.
- The star cutouts are fun but not necessary. Fold up the slices as shown in the photos to stay on budget.
- Swap the cheddar for monterey jack, pepper jack, or havarti to lean more white. Keep the swiss or American slices as is for the contrast.
- Storage: leftover components keep separately in airtight containers in the fridge for up to three days. Don’t store the assembled board (the moisture from the tomatoes and dip will wilt and soften the crackers). These “snackle” boxes make a very cute ingredient storage and to-go option.
