Stuffing Mix Meatloaf – Who Needs Plain Breadcrumbs?

Stuffing Mix Meatloaf – Who Needs Plain Breadcrumbs?

There’s a popular recipe going around to make meatloaf even easier: Stuffing Mix Meatloaf. If you’re here to learn how to make it, we have the recipe and tips all ready for you. It is simple to make and delicious.

It only has four ingredients!

If you are looking for a dinner idea with few ingredients, tastes good, and you could have leftovers, this is for you.

When you first read the recipe, you will hesitate and ask yourself, can dinner be that simple?!

Yes, it can.

When my sister-in-law shared this recipe with me, she told me that everyone expects it to be bland.

Then she makes it for folks, and they ask for it again and again.

We are fans of meatloaf. We even have a cheesy meatloaf recipe that you should check out. You can even use a gluten-free stuffing mix like Aleia’s.

We are fans of leftover meatloaf as well. If you are curious about how to reheat meatloaf we have you covered with step-by-step instructions.

Stuffing Meatloaf Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef (90/10 works best)
  • 1 box Stovetop stuffing mix or generic brand (This is where all the flavor and seasonings come from in this recipe.)
  • 4 T butter
  • 2 eggs

Let’s discuss these ingredients because they are simple but essential. First, note that there is no sauce or topping for this stuffing meatloaf recipe.

Now, this doesn’t mean that you can’t add a saucy topping to it if you would like. You could slather on some homemade sauce and bake it with that, or add it on the side at serving.

How to make a meatloaf sauce

  • ¼ c Ketchup
  • 2 T Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 T Yellow Mustard
  • 1 ½ T Sugar
  • ½ t Onion powder
  • ½ t Garlic powder

Combine all the above ingredients in a bowl. Stir.

Then spread these ingredients over the top of the meatloaf before placing it in the oven.

Tips on making meatloaf

1. Don’t over-mix the meat.

Use your hands or a heavy spoon to combine all the ingredients.

The trick is to have all your ingredients in the bowl and only mix things up once.

If you add one component at a time and mix and then add another, the meat will be too tough.

2. A lean ground beef works best.

We recommend 90/10 ground beef because we’re adding butter here, and you want that butter flavor to shine through.

Use what you have on hand, but we like 90/10.

Keep in mind that, as you will see below, this recipe calls for butter. That will add some fat and moisture.

3. Don’t overstuff the pan

You want your meatloaf to be a bit airy and not too dense. If you overstuff the pan, the meatloaf will steam instead of bake.

If you make it too dense, it will come out tough and thick. So when putting it in the pan, gently pack it but don’t pound it into the pan.

4. Bake it with aluminum foil on top

Start off baking it with the aluminum foil loosely covering the pan. Then remove the foil for the last 15 minutes of baking.

5. Allow it to rest

If you cut into the meatloaf when you remove it from the pan, the juices will flow out, and it will lose its moisture.

Allow it at least 8 minutes to rest. The juices will settle, and it will be a much tastier meatloaf.

6. Line the baking dish with parchment paper

This is not a requirement, but it sure does make the clean-up easier. It also makes for a better-looking meatloaf once it has finished cooking.

Line your baking dish with parchment paper.

You’ll have a meatloaf that comes out in a snap.

Hi, Twyla. Thanks for mentioning that! I updated the recipe card: 350F for 30 minutes. It might need an extra five minutes or so on a gas oven, like mine.
