Ingredients to make a Grinch Board
This Christmas charcuterie board is super quick to make, but I recommend gathering all your ingredients first. Use this as your shopping list, and you will be good to go.
Ingredients:
✓ Salami
✓ Green grapes
✓ Cheddar cheese
✓ Prosciutto
✓ Feta or halloumi
✓ Dark grapes
✓ Dried cherry
✓ Spruce branches
✓ Red chili pepper
Substitutions to consider:
Spruce branch substitutions. If you don’t have a live Christmas tree to grab some spruce branches from this year, consider rosemary or thyme sprigs. They are easy to find at the grocery store and festive as well.
Dark grapes. An excellent substitute for the eyes is black olives or even chocolate chips. They keep with the dark theme for the eyes and are easy to find.
Red Chili pepper. You can create a long slice from a red bell pepper with the same effect.
Substitution idea for green grapes. You could use cucumber slices, green bell peppers or even green olives.
How To Make A Christmas Grinch Charcuterie Board
Step 1: Prepare the cheese base for the eyes. Slice your cheddar cheese into about a ¼ inch-thick slice. Remember that you need a large slice of cheese because you will cut a 4-inch diameter chunk out of the slice.
Step 2: Cut a 4-inch circle out of the center of your cheese slice. You can use a cookie cutter or a cup or mug to do this. Then, divide the circle into three equal sections. (see the image below for reference.)
Tip: If your cheese is soft and not cutting well, chill it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes and then cut it.
Step 3: Cube the cheese. Dice your cheese into small cubes. Then, roll one cube of cheese into a small ball. This will serve as the pom-pom for the Grinch’s hate.
Step 4: Arrange the green grapes. Place a cluster of green grapes in the center of your serving platter to form the main “face” of the Grinch. Don’t stress too much about this step; you can reshape it later.
Step 5: Build the beard and the hat. Arrange the prosciutto at the bottom of the platter to represent the beard. Above the grapes, layer slices of salami to create the cap. Then, place your rolled-up cheese to represent the pom-pom.
Step 6: Add the eyes. Place the cheese sections for the eyes on the face (grapes). Add a dark grape or black olive slice to form the pupils. If your dark grapes don’t want to stay in place, use a dab of mayo to keep them in place.
Step 7: Add the nose and eyebrows. Place the dried cherry for the nose. Then, place the spruce or substitute for the bushy eyebrows.
Step 8: Cut a long, skinny slice from the chili pepper. Add the chili pepper slice for the mouth. Add festive decor around your Grinch and do any last-minute touch-up.
Serve and enjoy.
Quick Tips and Tricks
Chill your ingredients. To ensure everything assembles nicely and stays firm on the board, chill the ingredients right up until assembly.
Fresh ingredients. The secret to this looking fantastic is to use fresh ingredients. Fresh fruits and produce will look brighter, firmer, and taste better.
Include the extras. Serve this with crackers and small dipping sauces. Consider honey, mustard, or jams as dippers, depending on your final ingredient options.
