Have you ever tried the ambrosia salad recipe with Cool Whip and wondered exactly what goes into it?

Well, we have the classic recipe for you down below and it is outrageously simple to create.

You really don’t have to save this one for only special occasions.

This is such a light and airy recipe, so of course, it is a perfect summer dessert.

Some people even call it a dessert salad but whatever you want to call it, it is a great recipe.

I know that some folks call this fruit salad recipe the food of the gods and they may be right.

We make our ambrosia salad without sour cream but if you want that extra tang added in, just add about a quarter of a cup to the recipe.

One of the wonderful things about this creamy fruit salad recipe is that you can add and subtract and change it up each and every time.

Keep experimenting and make this your own recipe.

In our ambrosia recipe we use canned fruit but if you want to cut up some fresh fruit and add that in, go for it.

Main Ingredients:

Tropical fruit salad – There are varying kinds of tropical fruit salad that you can buy in the can.

Most of them come with pineapple, guava, papaya and passion fruit. However, read the ingredients to make sure that you are getting your favorite fruits.

Mini marshmallows – I just get plain old fashioned marshmallows but you can get them in flavors these days. You can even get fruity marshmallows.

Shredded coconut – I do want to recommend that you get unsweetened shredded coconut flakes for this classic salad.

Maraschino cherries – Drain these as best as you can when you remove them from the jar.

Cool whip – Creamy cool whip is the heart of this recipe.

Vanilla yogurt – Some people prefer to use vanilla Greek yogurt. Feel free to use whichever kind that you prefer.

Chopped pecans – You could substitute chopped walnuts or chopped almonds if you would prefer.

Optional Recipe Variations

• Cottage cheese
• Fresh pineapple or pineapple chunks
• Can of mandarin oranges
• Green grapes
• Traditional fruit salad in a can
