You HAVE to try these air fryer apple pie filling egg rolls — warm, cinnamon-spiced apple pie filling in an eggroll wrapper that crisps and blisters in the air fryer in a snap.

A brush of melted butter and a roll through cinnamon sugar gives each one a crackly, churro-like coating, and the filling inside is soft and jammy. Fifteen minutes of rolling, ten in the basket, and you have a plate of hand-held apple pies. Serve them warm, with caramel sauce, whipped cream, or melted vanilla ice cream for dipping.

How to make air fryer apple pie filling egg rolls

Step 1: Pull out your tools and ingredients before you start. Here are the easy ingredients that go in my apple pie egg rolls.

Ingredients for apple pie egg rolls: egg roll wrappers, apple pie filling, butter, sugar and cinnamon

Step 2: Chop the apple pie filling into smaller pieces so they tuck inside the wrappers easily and every bite gets some apple.

Step 3: Lay out the egg roll wrappers and spoon the filling diagonally across the center of each one. Fold the bottom corner up over the filling. See photos.

Step 4: Fold in each side gently, then roll each wrapper up tightly so the filling stays sealed inside. You can add a drop or two of water to the corner of each to help keep it sealed.

Step 5: In a small bowl, melt the butter. Set aside, then in another small bowl, stir the cinnamon and sugar together.

Step 6: Brush the rolls on all sides with melted butter (or spoon the butter over if you don’t have a pastry brush), then sprinkle generously with the cinnamon sugar mixture.

Step 7: In the air fryer basket: Arrange the rolls in a single layer and cook at 350°F for 10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp. Check at the 6 minute mark to ensure the edges aren’t browning too fast. (If that happens, lower the temp to 325F.)

The bottom line

If you have just made an amazing dinner and you have leftover Chinese egg roll wrappers, this is an easy fall dessert that you can make in a snap. A can of any fruit pie filling will do the trick (you just need the pieces of fruit to be small, so if you use peach, you’ll want to cut up the big slices of peach too.) The texture is crisp, with a churro-like cinnamon sugar coating—a hand-held apple pie you can make at home without a deep fryer.
