The BEST Tomato Sauce Substitute

What to substitute for tomato sauce when you’re in a pinch? Easy! Use a can of tomatoes!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 16 oz can whole or diced tomatoes with juice
  • ¼ c water or broth
  • ½ t salt
  • ½ t sugar

Instructions
 

  • Add all ingredients to a blender.
  • Cover and blend on high until it becomes a very loose puree.

Since canned tomatoes are cooked, you can use in your favorite recipes that call for tomato sauce as is… OR:

  • To cook the puree down to thicken, place in a medium saucepan on medium heat, stirring occasionally for 15 minutes. Cool, and then use as directed for your recipe.
