2 21 oz cans apple pie filling 1 1/2 tbsp lemon juice 1 tbsp vanilla extract 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 15.25 oz box butter cake mix 1/2 cup unsalted butter 1 stick, cut into small pieces
Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, gently stir the lemon juice, vanilla, and cinnamon into the apple pie filling, then scrape the filling into the baking dish.
Pour the cake mix over the top and spread edge to edge of the pan. Poke some of the cake mix down into the filling with a fork.
Cut the butter into small pieces and drop them all over the top.
Bake for 30 minutes, carefully remove from the oven and gently coax the dry areas down into the filling and bake for 30 minutes more.
Let the pan rest for six minutes before serving, as the filling will be very hot.
